Deep fried pickles?!? I’ve got to be joking, right?
I was skeptical at first too, but quickly became hooked on these tasty treats. If you like pickles, you will love these. Plus beer can be added to ramp up the recipe, as it so often does.
Here’s how you make them:
Ingredients
- 1 12 oz. beer (Try an IPA. I went with Hoppy Boy from Twisted Pine Brewery.)
- 1 1/2 cups all purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 egg
- Vegetable oil (Soybean, Canola, Peanut, Sunflower)
- Your favorite dipping sauce (I used salsa con queso. You might also like ranch or a southwestern sauce.)
Steps
- Pat the pickles dry with a paper towel and set aside.
- Mix the egg, baking powder, beer, salt, and flour in a large bowl. Whisk until smooth.
- If you have a deep fryer, great. If not, you can do it on the stove top using a large high-walled pot. Pour 1/2-2 inches of oil into the pot.
- Heat the oil to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
- Dip the pickles into the batter one by one, allowing the excess liquid to drip off.
- Deep fry for 3-4 minutes, until golden brown. Please, use tongs to lower the pickles into the oil. I don’t want to be the cause of any burnt fingers.
- Let them drain on a paper towel before serving.
- Serve by themselves, or even better, with your favorite dipping sauce.
Have you had deep fried pickles?

I go for the fried pickle chips, myself. Dipped in ranch dressing. Heavenly.
Hmmm…
The title didn’t sound too appealing, but after watching, I may just have to try these ones…
haha, i saw this in my email box, thought about it for a second, and i think im going to have to try this. Deep fried anything is usually good and im always up for something new. Thanks for the idea!
Nice job Billy. Tried some at Buffalo Wild Wings the other night but yours look better! I will try these at home with an appropriate IPA of course.
I have grown up eating fried dill pickles, and they are probably one of my favorite appetizers. I will definitely have to spice them up a bit with some beer.
@Big Tex Ah yea I’ve heard of that way too. Pretty sure that’s how Buffalo Wild Wings serves them, as my Dad mentioned below. Either way, pickles + fried = awesome.
@Jorge Haha yea not my most appetizing title, but maybe the most interesting.
@Andre Yea it’s crazy the amount of things you can deep fry. I went through my fridge after I made these and almost threw some olives in there, but backed down. Still curious though…
Let me know how you like them.
@Dad Yea give them a shot. The IPA is noticeable in the recipe but faint, so best to drink one on the side too to get the full effect ; )
@Josh All right another long time fan! Like I said above the IPA wasn’t a strong flavor, but the bitterness was noticeable. Let me know what you use and if the flavor comes through. Thanks for the comment.
I’m from Texas…so deep fried pickles…well deep fired anything is nothing new or scary to me. They make for an awesome snack though!
You know…just thinking…
But there are a few IPA’s that could REALLY come through as a stronger flavor. Some double IPA’s and triple IPA’s come to mind…hmmmm…..

A-ma-zing! They’ve always been one of my favorite treats, can’t wait to amp it up with some IPA action!
